Thank you all so much for joining us at the Diamond Jubilee edition of the Ultimate News Quiz 2012 on 1st March. We hope you had a fantastic evening.
Thank you also to all of our sponsors, including Taittinger who provided the champagne and to everyone who donated prizes. Your generosity allowed us to raise a record total of £73,000, and due to the generous sponsorship of the Quiz by the Vodafone Foundation, every penny of this amount will go directly to our two charities, Restless Development and Action for Children. The proceeds of the diamond raffle were donated to the Rory Peck Trust.
On the night of the Quiz, the stars of the nation’s newsrooms enjoyed a regal addition to their annual battle at the Ultimate News Quiz. The Jubilee-themed charity evening at Quaglino’s was graced with the presence of Prince Charles – or his voice at least – for a special round of questions. News stars including Bill Turnbull, Adam Boulton, Emily Maitlis and Natasha Kaplinsky enjoyed the dulcet tones of His Royal Highness; the excitement only slightly tempered by the arrival of Rory Bremner on stage moments later.
The quiz was won by CNN’s news team, narrowly beating C5 News and BBC TV News who had to share second place, and left teams from BBC Radio, ITV, Channel 4 and Sky trailing in their wake.
Thank to everyone who attended – we look forward to seeing you all at the Ultimate News Quiz 2013!
