Highlights of the Ultimate News Quiz 2014!

Thursday 20th March saw the London Film Museum host the eighth Ultimate New Quiz. Nick Robinson, political editor at the BBC, was the evening’s quiz master. Foreign Office Minister Hugo Swire acted as our auctioneer, plus Splash! contestant Penny Mordaunt MP and former England footballer Graeme Le Saux hosted a special guest round. After eight gruelling rounds of questions, Sky News came first, ITV News second and joint third place was taken by Channel 4 News and BBC Newsnight.

 Prizes

The charity auction saw guests bid for prizes including, a once in a lifetime opportunity to become the Chelsea Chairman for the Day, a romantic break in Paris at one of the city’s famous – Le Bristol hotel, tickets to the final of University Challenge, five days in the Maldives, two tickets to the Queen’s Club Championships Final, and Penny Mordaunt MP’s swim suit from Splash! was sold for £600 to BBC Newsnight’s Emily Maitlis.

A celebrity hamper that was auctioned included Jeremy Paxman’s homemade marmalade, quince eau de vie from Emily Maitlis, honey from passionate beekeeper Bill Turnbull, eggs from Natasha Kaplinsky’s chickens, home-baked banana bread from Celebrity Masterchef finalist Kirsty Wark as well as a signed box of Louis Theroux’s favourite chocolates.
